Our Engineering, Assets and Environment Team, which includes a dedicated Engineering Unit that manages the surveys and Designs all civil infrastructure, is a major part of why the City of Marion is such a great place to work.

Due to the retirement of a long-serving employee, we are now looking for an experienced Engineering Design Manager or Design Engineer to join our team, supervise the Survey and Design services team members, and coordinate and develop design projects.

Reporting to the Unit Manager Engineering, you will provide direction and support to a highly capable team of four that includes field-based Technical Survey Officers and Engineering Design Officers.

Your remit in this dynamic role will be to contribute to the City of Marion’s efforts to drive excellence in Infrastructure Planning, Project Management (Project Initiation, Plan and Detailed Design phases) and to lead a team to provide high quality technical advice and services. 

Accountabilities of this Engineering oriented Coordinator position is comprised of the following.

  • Managing and coordinating Survey and Design services within the team. 
  • Supervising and providing guidance and direction to other Survey and Design staff.
  • Coordinating and developing design projects and programs within scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Updating and maintaining Council’s standard drawings and technical specifications.
  • Delivering comprehensive project documentation and reports.
  • Preparing accurate financial reports, including cost estimation and project/program budget requirements. 
  • Providing high level technical advice on the knowledge of Design Standards, Guides and Technical Codes.
  • Engaging and supporting specialist design services/consultants for infrastructure projects.
  • Developing and monitoring performance and efficiency using data analytics software (dashboards).
  • Providing expert/specialist advice and recommendations such as alternative and innovative materials usage

This position requires a tertiary qualified applicant in Civil Engineering (or similar technical field) with advanced knowledge of roads, footpath, drainage, traffic control devices, civil construction techniques, Australian design standards, guides, and technical codes.

It is expected that you will have highly developed interpersonal skills, possess a working knowledge of project management principles, and be familiar with CAD drafting software packages.

This position requires a collaborative, community orientated civil engineer that has preferably worked with local government. Prior supervisory experience is preferred but those that are motivated to be a future leader who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply.
