Job Description
Join TAL's Commercial Legal team where you will provide support to the business, including Individual Life, Group Life & Investments, Innovation, Corporate, and our financial advice licensee.
This is a wide role for a lawyer who is passionate about financial services law and would like an opportunity to work with senior lawyers on a wide range of interesting and complex legal issues, with a diverse stream of work.
This role is a 12-month contract.
In this role you will:
- Advise on products and offerings as part of TAL's Direct, Retail and Group life insurance businesses
- Advise on life insurance products and policy documents, and agreements required for TAL's business including with our distribution Alliance partners and Group fund partners
- Negotiate and draft contractual terms for arrangements with Alliance partners, superannuation trustees, distributors and third-party suppliers
- Review disclosure material and marketing
- Advise on legal matters relevant to our business, including the Corporations Act, Insurance Contracts Act, Life Insurance Act , Superannuation laws and other legislation relevant to a financial services business (including privacy law)
- Pro-actively identify regulatory or legislative developments relating to the TAL Group's Direct, Retail and Group life insurance businesses
- Advise on and assist with legal advice on and communication to relevant stakeholders (including regulators) on breach reporting and remediation
- Support the needs of the Corporate Legal team enterprise wide including contracts, financial advice licensee advice (Affinia) and intellectual property
- Admitted as a solicitor in Australia
- Minimum 3 years legal experience, preferably with experience in life insurance, superannuation and/or financial services
- Excellent technical knowledge of financial services laws including Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, Life Insurance Act, Insurance Contracts Act and the Supervision Industry (Supervision) Act
- Excellent and effective communications skills
