About the role

Salary: $ 65,793 pa - $ 77,979 pa + 38 Hr Week (Shift) + Incidental Allowance + Superannuation + Annual Leave Loading.

Location: Windsor and Regional Areas

Correctional Officer K9’s will provide a high standard of security, assistance and support to Governors, senior management and officers in charge of correctional centres within NSW to assist in the maintenance of good order, discipline, safety and security of correctional centres.

The successful applicant must have completed or have the ability to successfully complete all requirements of the CSNSW Dog Handlers Course. The successful applicant must be prepared to reside, or be willing to relocate within 115 kilometres of the nominated K9 Unit Base and must have a secure yard to house a CSNSW Dog.

On the selection day applicants will be required to provide pictures of their residential yard which will be reviewed by the Kennel Manager. At that time all applicants will be advised of any associated improvements required at their residence if they are successful, a full residential inspection will be conducted at the residence of the successful applicant. Any costs involved with the upgrade of the yard will be the responsibility of the successful applicant. No other dogs other than the departmental dog will be permitted to reside at the residence of the successful handler.

This is a rostered role and requires shift and weekend work.

Essential requirements

Certificate III in Correctional Practice or appropriate and relevant custodial experience

Current driver’s licence appropriate to meet all job requirements and ability and willingness to drive official vehicles throughout NSW

Pass and maintain the standard Security Operations fitness test

Have completed or ability to complete of all requirements of the NSW Corrective Services Dog Handlers Course and able to meet and maintain the standards of an operational CSNSW K9 handler

Have completed or ability to complete the Emergency Response Operators Course (EROC)

Capacity and willingness to travel at short notice and to spend extended periods away from own residence

Capacity and willingness to undertake further training to perform the duties of any area within SOG including emergency and security procedures

It is an essential requirement of the role that successful applicants provide proof they have had the approved COVID-19 vaccine

Will be required to successfully complete the 4-week induction training course within the Security Operations Group.
