About the Opportunity

The Attorney-General's Department of South Australia has exciting opportunities for Paralegal Officers to join the Crown Solicitor's Paralegal Officer pool based in Adelaide.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work with a high profile legal team. The Crown Solicitor's Office, through the Attorney-General, provides legal services to government Ministers, agencies and departments, including legal advice, representation before courts and tribunals, negotiating of commercial contracts, drafting and production of legal documents, counsel for the conduct of summary prosecutions and Magistrates' Appeals, native title claims management, land conveyancing and investigation services.

Successful applicants are placed in a pool and notified if and when suitable vacancies arise. Successful applications for the pool are valid for a period of twelve months for appointment to temporary positions. Reporting to Solicitors and accountable to the Assistant Crown Solicitor, your main responsibility will be to provide an efficient law clerk service (subject to supervision).
More specifically, your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • legal research
  • preparing letters, advices, outline of argument, affidavits and other documents
  • assisting with conduct of trials and hearings
  • assisting with the establishment and maintenance of legal precedents and templates, management of documentation, use of practice management and litigation support systems and the discovery process
  • providing administrative support to solicitors as required
About the Business

The Crown Solicitor's Office is the Government of South Australia's legal service and provides advice to Cabinet, ministers and government agencies.

The Crown Solicitor’s Office (CSO):
represents the government before courts and tribunals
drafts legal documents
provides conveyancing and other property related services
resolves native title claim issues.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

The Paralegal Officer may be assigned to work in any section of the CSO.
