About the role
Bathurst Regional Council is looking to appoint a Customer Service Officer, responsible for Council’s phone switchboard. This position requires a motivated and enthusiastic person capable of providing a professional service to all Council customers. As the switchboard operator you are required to have excellent customer service skills and will be responsible for accurate and efficient response to all calls. This position is a link between the Council and its customers and is offered as a permanent full-time position.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Provide prompt and efficient customer service, answering all enquiries from the public in a helpful, friendly and informative manner at the first-floor reception desk at Bathurst Civic Centre including the operation of the main telephone switchboard for Council.
Escalate enquiries as appropriate to other areas for response.
Engage with a broad cross section of the community.
Maintain an up to date working knowledge of Council’s services, functions and activities in order to provide information to customers.
Provide administrative support to the Corporate Governance section as well as the Corporate Services & Finance department.
Prepare outgoing mail for collection by the Australia Post.
Assist in any other matters as requested by the Manager Corporate Governance.
Key Requirements
Certificate III in Business and/or equivalent experience
Previous experience with a busy switchboard or high frequency call centre
Minimum 2 years' experience in similar position
Customer service skills to assist with enquiries and project a professional image of the Council
Excellent communication skills
Proficiency and experience in utilising a range of computer packages i.e Microsoft Office, Content Manager (TRIM), Authority etc. to complete processes
Experience in updating/maintaining databases and registers
Ability to work in a team environment
A current NSW Class C Driver's Licence

This position requires a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug & alcohol screen.
Salary: $965.30 to $1014.17 per week + super
Position Status: Permanent Full Time
Hours of work: 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
