Primary objective
Provide high-quality technical advice and support to ensure business and enterprise level databases within client agencies meet
organisational strategic and operational requirements.
Context statement
Agency Business Systems (ABS) manage client agencies’ core business digital systems through their life cycle from strategy to
design, development, release and deployment, operational delivery, maintenance, support and retirement.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Monitor and evaluate ongoing database performance identifying opportunities to optimise the value derived from the use of
databases, data stores and data pipelines, and facilitate continual improvement, reporting capability and automation.
2. Manage database configuration and design and deploy database changes in collaboration with stakeholders, colleagues and
vendors. Including installing and upgrading software, documenting functional requirements and establishing database
definitions, security controls and integrity of data in line with best practice and industry standards.
3. Conduct complex technical investigations to analyse and resolve issues and continually improve database performance,
including trouble-shooting issues with vendors and recommending corrective actions.
4. Project manage an allocated case load of programmed works ensuring appropriate governance and risk management
frameworks are in place and undertake procurement and contract management as required.
5. Build and maintain effective stakeholder, client, vendor and supplier relationships to support the delivery of projects on time
and within budget.
6. Stay abreast of trends within areas of responsibility to ensure contemporary advice and recommendations and a client centric
approach to service delivery.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Substantial experience in database management, analysis and support and demonstrated knowledge of enterprise level
relational and object-oriented database structures, logical database schema, database management system software and tools,
and technical ETL processes.
2. Proficient in a range of industry standard database technologies and proven ability to recommend and implement digital
solutions that best support organisational strategic and operational requirements.
3. Experience conducting complex technical investigations to resolve issues in an integrated ICT operational setting, including
fostering continual improvement through innovative and automated solutions.
4. Project management experience and knowledge of contemporary methodologies and tools, particularly governance and risk
management practices, research techniques and data analysis.
5. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated success cultivating productive working
relationships with people of diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
6. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates DCDD values of being professional, accountable, honest, innovative and
respectful.
Desirable
1. Degree level tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g., ICT, business administration.
2. Relevant ITIL qualification and/or database specific certification.
