As a Database Migration Engineer (Mid-Level), your primary responsibility is the successful migration of datasets from a SQL Server database system to a comparable Postgres RDBMS. The migration operation itself may be simple or complex, requiring multiple steps over an extended span of time. You are comfortable using the various Postgres tools and extensions.
The right candidate will have experience with SQL Server Migrations to Postgres. Someone who is passionate about data, enjoys solving technical problems, and is committed to taking ownership of this Database migration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the existing SQL Server databases and gauge the complexity and estimate the efforts required for a migration to Postgres.
- Determine the best migration target based on the nature of the application and the type of data and the business logic in the database.
- Be a single point of contact for our team on Postgres and migration-related assistance.
- Perform migration of SQL code that includes Packages, Procedures and Functions from SQL Server to Postgres.
- 2-3 years of experience in performing SQL Server to Postgres migrations and in helping clients port applications from SQL Server to Postgres with alternate approaches that are open source.
- 2-3 years of experience in writing SQL and migrating Packages and Procedures from SQL Server to Postgres.
- Experience working in an Azure Cloud environment would be a bonus.
- Worked in Tech Start-up or SMB environments is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work as part of a remote team and autonomously.
- MUST have Australian Working Rights to apply - Australian PR or Citizen (currently based in Australia)
