Position Information

Morisset High School is located in the beautiful south-western Lake Macquarie and is a proud comprehensive public school that caters for over 700 Year 7-12 students. Approximately 26% of students identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, who are well supported by the Itji-Marru Aboriginal Resource Centre. 

The school prides itself on offering a broad range of curriculum and educational opportunities. Evidence-informed teaching practices and high expectations, creates a learning culture within which all students effectively develop their knowledge, understanding and skills. Morisset High School provides access to high-quality vocational education and training (VET) courses, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, and HSC pathways support, which informs and inspires all students to choose post-school pathway options aligned to their goals.

The senior executive team is committed to leading school excellence, evidence-based teaching practices, delivering high impact professional learning and achieving ongoing school improvement that transforms the lives of young people and caters for their educational, physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

School-based VET options are available to students from Year 10, and students in Years 11 and 12 can undertake School-based Apprenticeship (SBAT) while still achieving a HSC. VET courses currently offered include; Entertainment, Primary Industries (Agriculture), Retail, Business Services, Sports Coaching, Hospitality (Kitchen Operations/Food and Beverages), Construction Pathways, Manufacturing and Engineering, Financial Services and Hairdressing.

There are nine inclusive Special Education Support classes catering for students with additional learning needs, uniquely named Malangba meaning 'Together Place' in language.

The school has a unique learning partnership with Big Picture Education Australia and has four Big Picture Advisories in the Morisset High School Big Picture Academy. This provides students with an alternative, personalised and student-driven learning opportunity and environment.  Students strive to achieve an International Big Picture Learning Credential. 

An active Parents & Citizens Association (P&C) and Itji-Marru, the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) support the school and have high expectations of an inclusive school that values and encourages community engagement, partnership, confidence, and satisfaction. The whole school community works in partnership to achieve our school vision.


Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

Proven ability to provide strategic leadership to achieve whole school priorities. 

A highly visible and proactive leaders with the capacity to work collaboratively as a member of the school's executive team to successfully lead initiatives that result in measurable whole school improvement.

Leadership that values and sustains partnerships and relationships that best supports improved educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, while maintaining strong cultural identity.

Exemplar interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to form partnerships with the whole school community and external agencies to develop enhanced learning and well-being outcomes for all learners.


General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy


Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
