About the role
We are looking for a talented Front End Developer to join the development team of our award-winning cloud-based modelling and simulation application for the minerals industry. With global reach and a growing customer base, the time is right to add a talented Frontend developer to support our existing and grow our emerging applications.
You will have strong front-end development skills and experience in CSS3, HTML 5, and JavaScript, and a passion for UI/UX design. You will be a part of the Digital division of this ASX100 company taking new applications to market with an exciting pipeline of new functionality. This is a rare opportunity to join the minerals industry in a challenging software development role based in Brisbane.
What you will be doing
Requirements Gathering
- Work with the Development Manager and the Chief Architect to design new functionality on the “front end client” of applications according to functional specifications.
- Where necessary:
- Interview simulation tool End Users regarding their current use and future requirements
- Document requirements and lead review and discussion by the Development Team
- Review and update Use Cases in JIRA project management system
Design
- Identify overall design principles for the User Interface Functionality
- Conceptualise technical solutions that meet requirements
- Provide input to Chief Architect and Development Manager activity planning
- Identify development sequence for software
- Perform development tasks as directed by the Development Manager
- Update development status
- Develop comprehensive test plans
- Test development
- Report and track development defects
- Ensure a high level of code quality is maintained by participating in code reviews of code updates and enhancements
- Contribute to improvements in our processes and procedures.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering related disciplines
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a development team as a Frontend Developer with experience in design, coding, building and testing of UI
- Experience building CSS3/HTML 5/JavaScript/AJAX applications
- Experience with libraries such as ExtJS, jQuery, or Dojo an advantage
- While not essential, experience with the ExtJS framework will be highly regarded
- JavaScript unit-testing experience, using tools such as JSUnit, qUnit, DOH or Jasmine, is a strong advantage
- UX/UI Front End focus
- Graphic design skills (Photoshop or GIMP), creating icons, CSS “sprite” pallets are an advantage
- Experience with standard tools eg version control (Git, Mercurial, SVN), build tools (Maven, Ant, Gradle, Rake)
- Pride yourself on strong software development, including:
- Writing and maintaining test coverage
- Troubleshooting, debugging and implementing long-term fixes to bugs
- Proactive, self-directed person with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
