PETAA, the Primary English Teaching Association Australia, is a national not-for-profit member association devoted to supporting teachers by: providing professional learning courses (including an annual conference); creating resources that feature quality children’s literature and the latest insights into education trends; funding research into best-practice instruction; and publishing award-winning, critically acclaimed teacher reference texts.
Now in our 50th year, PETAA is a respected leader in the education field. Our annual conference attracts more than 1200 attendees and is well-regarded in the sector. Our resources are created by a vast network of academics, experts, and highly experienced collaborators all committed to improving the experience of all students, from all walks of life, in the classroom.
About the role
We are looking for an organised, curious, and creative Digital Marketing Officer to join us full-time in our office in Newtown in Sydney’s inner west, where you will be a critical player in the association’s continued success.
You will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager, forming the other half of this small, ambitious, and highly strategic team who are responsible for representing the full suite of PETAA’s business units: publications, professional learning, and membership.
You will extend our reach and facilitate membership growth through social media, digital advertising, and robust email marketing. You’ll also play a key role in optimising and evolving our user experiences and member journeys, and will inform how we shape communications into the future.
A Day in the Life
Your responsibilities could include the following on any given day (other duties may be assigned):
- Coordinate and execute weekly email newsletters, monthly sales EDMs, and lead nurture campaigns (effectively segmented for key stakeholders)
- Execute our multi-channel social media strategy (crafting, posting, reporting)
- Build and maintain email and social media marketing campaigns
- Develop and build digital advertisements (including Google Ads)
- Report on analytics and user behaviour to provide critical insights
- Oversee the day-to-day requirements of PETAA’s award winning website and associated microsites
- Collaborate with Professional Learning and Membership teams to create and distribute effective marketing and content materials
- Work with the PETAA team to maintain the integrity of the contact database and member data
- Assist in our series of livestreamed talks with literacy experts and children’s and young adult authors/illustrators
- General administrative and scheduling tasks associated with marketing and communications activity

Essential skills
- 1-2 years of demonstrated experience in digital marketing and communications
- A degree in marketing, communications or a related field
- Demonstrated experience with Google Analytics and Google Ads
- Demonstrated ability to generate, analyse and interpret data for business use
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary digital and online communications trends and practices
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to juggle multiple deadlines, including long-term goals and short-term projects, and to deliver reporting and insights on time
- Experience in website development, visual marketing or design would be highly regarded
