About Queensland State Archives 
The Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts is responsible for progressing the Treaty process, delivering services for communities and the arts, and providing whole-of-government leadership and coordination in policy, program, and service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.
As the State’s Archives and records management authority, QSA builds understanding and capability in the management of records and information within public authorities, including securing important digital records created by government for current and future generations.
As the custodian of the largest and most significant documentary heritage collection in Queensland, QSA manage, preserve and help Queenslanders access those records. QSA is committed to creating places for all Queenslanders to share stories and histories. We strive to be an archive that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination and embraces First Nations’ worldviews, knowledge and culture.  
About the Role | Director, Digital Archives & Collections 
As the Director, Digital Archives and Collections you will provide strategic leadership and collaborate with the team responsible for managing QSA’s physical collection and digital archive, and support the long-term preservation of archival records in all formats, including digital. You will engage with a range of stakeholders, including QSA colleagues, public authorities, and the archival community, to align QSA’s practices with international best practice and to build digital archiving capability within the organisation.   

Your Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic leadership to the team managing QSA's physical and digital archival collection
  • Provide strategic, high-level advice to all levels of stakeholder on matters relating to digital and physical preservation, application of restricted access to archival records and collection management
  • Develop solutions for the long-term management and preservation of the governments’ information assets in all format
  • Engage with the archival community to align practices with international best practice
  • Lead transfers and storage programs for archival records
  • Oversee the collection management system and repository management
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and government agencies 
About You  
To excel in this role, you need technical expertise and strong stakeholder engagement skills. As part of the senior leadership team, you'll demonstrate strategic thinking, make insightful decisions, and inspire your team to deliver results. Key qualities include curiosity, knowledge of emerging technology, forward thinking, relationship building, and promoting inclusivity. Demonstrated experience in Digital Archives and/or information management and collection management, is essential. We value respect, inclusivity, and accountability, and seek someone who can drive positive change.
While a tertiary qualification is not mandatory, experience in archives, library, collection management, information management or information technology discipline(s) is highly desirable.
