Snowy Valleys Council (SVC) is nestled in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, bordered by the Kosciuszko National Park and Murray River. It was formed in May 2016 following the merger of Tumbarumba Shire Council and Tumut Shire Council. SVC will be moving to a x2 Directorate structure, which aims to support exceptional service delivery for the community now and into the future.
The Opportunity
As the Director of Infrastructure & Assets, reporting directly into the General Manager, you will lead 5 Managers across vast directorate (of 117 FTE) across the following areas; Works, Open Space & Facilities, Technical Services, Utilities & Waste, Fleets & Depots.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team you will contribute to the achievement of Council’s Strategic Planning including Community Strategic Plan, Operational and Management plans and also provide high level advice to Council and the General Manager on a range of complex issues within Assets and Infrastructure.
You are accountable for the asset management of key infrastructure and ensuring the effective delivery of assigned services and programs, whilst ensuring your team of professionals will deliver high quality services and seek continuous improvement initiatives across the service areas.
Driving a number of current/upcoming projects, including the Tumut Evacuation and multi -purpose centre, Tumut Aerodrome upgrades, road upgrades, Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO), Integrated water cycle management (IWCM), multiple park and facility improvements. Whilst developing longer term management strategies and plans including: Asset Management Plans, Caravan Park Strategy, Public Amenities Strategy.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the Infrastructure & Assets Directorate to drive capability, accountability, compliance and service delivery at Snowy Valleys Council.
- Deliver and maintain strategic and business plans that meet community needs and organisational priorities now and into the future.
- Deliver the services of the portfolio in accordance with legislation, adopted strategies and plans to meet community needs and organisational priorities.
- Engagement in high-level critical analysis of a wide range of complex information and formulate effective responses to organisational strategic and operational issues.
- Ensure a high degree of financial control and management within the Directorate.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of Council’s Executive Leadership Team.
- Set goals and performance measures to link community needs and organisational priorities to service delivery.
- Establishment and promotion of a culture which encourages initiative and emphasises the value of continuous improvement.

To be considered, you will have demonstrated experience of:
- managing a multi-disciplinary team at a Senior Management level, specialising in one or more of the following areas: civil infrastructure construction and management, water and sewerage, solid waste management, transport and fleet management.
- engaging with government agencies, professional associations, private sector, industry and community stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes that align with strategic goals.
- Leading significant organisational and cultural change initiatives.
- Working collaboratively to determine the strategic direction of an organisation, with a focus on performance and continuous improvement.
