Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Director, Legal Services (General Legal) to join the Office of the General Counsel, Chancellery Division.
The Director, Legal Services (General Legal) provides strategic and operational leadership to a team of expert legal professionals in providing in-house legal advice to officers of the University, including the Vice-Chancellor, University Registrar and other members of the senior executive with a focus on property and leasing and general legal matters. This position reports to the General Counsel for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

About the area
The Office of the General Counsel is led by the General Counsel and is responsible for providing legal services to the University. It provides legal advice to the Vice-Chancellor and President, Senior Executive and Council. The portfolio also includes the assurance and audit office, which provides independent analysis, appraisals, recommendations, advice and information about QUT’s internal control systems, effectiveness, and performance quality.
What you need to succeed
A qualified legal practitioner, holding or entitled to hold an unrestricted practicing certificate in Queensland, with at least 8 years post-admission legal experience (or equivalent)
Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and advice on general legal matters with extensive experience in property law.
Excellent written and oral communication skills including evidence of the ability to draft, review and implement the full range of legal contracts or agreements applicable to the University environment.
Demonstrated high functioning time management and organisational skills with an excellent ability to prioritise tasks according to competing deadlines.
Demonstrated extensive leadership and management skills including the ability to build, lead, motivate and manage a diverse and effective team to achieve high standards of client services, team-work and integrity.
Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and written and oral communication skills coupled with cultural sensitivity and the ability to establish positive working relationships with employees, managers, executive staff members and external stakeholders.
