About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Registered Nurse in a key executive director role for a 6 month relief opportunity. As the Director of General Medicine and Palliative Care you will be responsible for the oversight and operational leadership of of the clinical services of Palliative Care, Drug and Alcohol, Cardiology, Aged Care and General Medicine.

Working collaboratively with the Director of Nursing and Director of Medical Services, you will provide high level support to your teams in quality and risk, patient flow, budgets, clinical services and workforce planning. You will have responsibility for Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) standard 5 with comprehensive care, speaking up for safety and implementation of current trends in health and end of life care for Calvary Mater Newcastle

What you bring 

  • Registered Nurse authorised to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation  Agency (AHPRA), appropriate tertiary qualifications in health management and/or extensive experience in a senior health service management role that afford a similar level of professional and technical competence.
  • Demonstrated experience at a senior level in all aspects of the management of a service/department, utilising benchmarks, targets and activity planning to ensure resources are used effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, negotiate and implement change, informed by current best practice and internal and external influences on the organisation.  
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate at a high level, in multiple formats with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team at an executive level ensuring operational achievement and whole of hospital strategic planning.
  • Ability to work with the Director of Nursing regarding Nursing professional matters, acting as a leader of nurses and role model for nursing across the organisation

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
