Director, Operations and Program
Executive Band 1

  • An exciting opportunity to lead a multi-agency patient flow unit that oversees and coordinates capacity management across the Sydney greater metropolitan area as well as regional and rural NSW, as required
  • We are seeking a dynamic individual who will coordinate whole-of-system patient flow by monitoring emergency department, acute hospital (including mental health), and intensive care unit capacity to support appropriate distribution of patients across the system
  • The successful candidate will have exceptional stakeholder engagement skills as required to liaise with the Minister for Health; Secretary of Health; Deputy Secretary, Patient Experience and System Performance Division and other government agencies, community and education organisations, private sector organisations.

This role will be located in St Leonards.


Role Outline
The Director, Operations and Program Support (OPS) manages the System Flow Centre (SFC) and Program Support Unit (PSU) based in System Management Branch (SMB). They are responsible for business support functions and services to enable operational efficiency in SMB. As well as supporting Local Health Districts and Specialty Health Networks (LHD/SHNs) with coordinating whole-of-system patient flow. The Director, OPS, plays a key leadership and decision-making role, while engaging with partner agencies within the NSW Health System.

  • Provide an example of where you have coordinated the response to a large-scale critical incident, which required working with multiple government agencies. Outline key actions and communication strategies you employed to achieve set objectives.
  • Outline your skills and experience in identifying, assessing and managing risks for highly complex and sensitive matters within a complex government environment.


Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent substantial management experience at senior level.



This is an ongoing, Band 1, Public Service senior executive (PSSE) role. An attractive remuneration package within the range of $211,222 to $235,325 per annum, with annual performance reviews, will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
