About the position

The Director, Tasmania Legal Aid provides leadership to Tasmania Legal Aid staff to ensure appropriate legal services are provided to vulnerable and marginalised Tasmanians.

The primary duties of the position are to:
  • To perform all the duties imposed on the position by the Legal Aid Commission Act 1990 and be responsible for carrying out all instructions from, and the decisions of, Tasmania Legal Aid.
  • To provide oversight in relation to all aspects of Tasmania Legal Aid's operations to ensure efficient and effective performance.
  • To ensure the furnishing of statistical and other information to Tasmania Legal Aid enabling it to provide advice to the State and Commonwealth Attorneys-General in accordance with funding and other agreements.
  • To manage the human, physical and financial resources of Tasmania Legal Aid.

If you are an experienced, energetic lawyer with demonstrated success in leadership positions with a commitment to the ethos of legal aid and access to justice, you will enjoy the diversity and demands of a role that is vital to the Tasmanian community.

This is a Senior Executive position, either full time or part time, with an annual salary range commencing at $200,933 per annum, plus 10.5% superannuation and provision of a fully maintained vehicle. Reasonable relocation expenses incurred in taking up the position will be reimbursed.

Essential Requirements
  • Section 8(2) of the Legal Aid Commission Act 1990 requires the Director to be an Australian lawyer.
