Division Dispute Resolution & Litigation
Description
The role
Are you a skilled lawyer seeking a change? Are you looking to gain exposure to interesting work and sophisticated clients?
This role is an opportunity for a high performing (2+ year PAE) lawyer in a transitional or growth phase of their career - you might be looking to gain experience in private practice, or a different area of the law, or simply looking for something temporary to give you options.
This opportunity will see you working closely with Litigation partner, Nick Burkett, and his Senior Associate, Emma Baker as part of our Dispute Resolution & Litigation team.
It is a 6 month fixed term role to cover a period of parental leave, with the possibility of extension or permanency.
This role offers an enormous about of opportunity and variety. You'll work closely with Nick and Emma on a daily basis - gaining broad exposure to a variety of complex and challenging matters, and receiving plenty of mentoring and support along the way.
Nick's practice encompasses a broad range of litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes across various state and federal courts and tribunals. He assists clients with commercial, contract, trust, property, and insolvency matters. He and Emma have long standing experience in the insurance field and frequently act on behalf of clients in relation to indemnity issues (including the wrongful declining of indemnity), policy coverage, insurance contract reviews and general insurance advice. An important part of the practice is acting in health regulatory matters.
Nick has strong relationships both within the firm, and externally. He is our Brisbane Head of Office and is frequently briefed by other members of the legal profession to act on their behalf in various capacities.
About you
You will be committed to excellence and be willing to work hard to achieve high quality outcomes. You have strong attention to detail and a mind capable of working through nuanced and complex problems, or the potential to develop this capability.
Above all, you're passionate about dispute resolution and litigation and have (or are developing) strong technical skills in this area.
