The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
The Drug and Alcohol Case Manager (DACM) will be responsible for providing evidence-based guidance and advice, treatment planning and referral service information for the Drug Court (DC) and its participants, in line with the principles and practices of the model, at all Drug Court locations.
The DACM plays a crucial role in undertaking comprehensive drug and alcohol assessments with potential DC participants who have been referred to DC. These assessments are used to inform the judiciary around suitability for Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders (DATO) and assist in shaping potential DATO conditions. The DACM is also responsible for designing a treatment plan, liaising with alcohol and other drug services and supporting the participant to achieve treatment goals. This role also provides secondary consultation to other members of the DC team and the judiciary.
The role also seeks to foster innovation in the workplace by adopting a systems approach to stakeholder engagement and collaboration and by developing protocols and processes between the DC and stakeholders to enhance the operations of the DC.
