Independent Anglican School for boys and girls from Early Childhood to Year 12 and boarding
students from Year 7 to 12. The school is set amongst a lagoon and lush tropical rain trees

PRIMARY ROLE PURPOSE
The role of Head of Girls Residence is a permanent full-time salaried residential position working
approximately 42-44 weeks per year.
The position will be required to fulfil 3 main functions. These being:
1. Be responsible for the smooth operation of the girls boarding residences, with a focus on
promoting the pastoral, social and academic needs of the students;
2. Work with, mentor, and oversee young female students whilst they are boarding and
attending school;
3. Provide a high level of support for the social and educational progress of students from
diverse backgrounds and communicate with teachers and parents regarding students’
personal development and learning outcomes.
The position is to work as part of a team of responsible carers who provide a warm, friendly,
homely environment. The Head of Girls Residence will be required to manage staff working in
the girls’ residences. The Head of Girls Residence will live in and run the boarding residences in
exchange for remuneration, board, and residence. Applicants should enjoy working with
adolescent youth and be willing to supervise these students and assist them in their studies.
Duties average approximately 38 hours per week but will vary from time to time.
Boarding students at The Cathedral School are drawn from throughout regional Queensland and
the Northern Territory as well as international students from Japan, China, Hong Kong, and
Papua New Guinea. The boarding environment at The Cathedral School is a highly successful
one and is held in high regard by members of both the school and the wider community.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential Criteria
The Head of Girls Residence will be required to meet the following Essential Criteria and actively
work towards obtaining the desired Competencies, Knowledge & Skills.
Qualifications
- Suitability card “Blue card” – working with children check.
- Experience within a boarding school and tertiary studies in the field of Residential Care.
- ABSA Duty of Care Certificate (to be gained within the first 12 months of appointment).
- Youth Mental Health First Aid (to be gained within the first 12 months of appointment).
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- A COVID-19 digital certificate or immunisation history statement indicating full vaccination

- Significant experience in the day to day operation of a boarding residence is essential.
- Experience working with and mentoring a broad range of student backgrounds including

COUNTABILITIES: KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
A summary of the key accountabilities for the Head of Girls Residence are as follows:
Students
- Be responsible for the pastoral care (security and welfare) of all students in dormitories.
- Assist new students with transition to boarding school:
o Assimilating students into boarding life;
o Provide ongoing pastoral support.
- Embrace the principal of Duty of Care in all activities.
- Ensure students rise, attend to personal hygiene and housekeeping, and community
- Meet regularly with the Director of Boarding regarding boarders’ progress and
- Help formulate, in consultation with the Director of Boarding policies and practices
- Be responsible for allocating student accommodation.
- Check students are present at allocated times within the daily routines and follow up with
- Liaise with appropriate staff in the day school regarding boarders’ progress and
- Supervise and assist students with study and homework and communicate with teachers
- Participate, coordinate, and record student activities and outings.
- Attend, co-ordinate and oversee meals in dining room.
- Attend and supervise boarders chapel if on duty.
- Ad hoc supervision of grounds when students are permitted to be out of the dormitories.
- Conduct regular meetings with students and student representatives in the dormitory.
- Scheduling students’ extracurricular activities.
- Transport students to and from various off campus activities.
- Liaise with student health centre for medical matters attaining to boarding students.
- Be responsible for the creation and monitoring of staff rosters and duties for the
- Participate actively in selection of boarding supervisors for the girls dormitory.
- Establish good staff morale and a professional attitude in the department.
- Conduct regular meetings with boarding supervisors.
- Assist the Director of Boarding to prepare and deliver boarding “in-service” days for the
- Liaise with staff on duty at all times with regard to the care and discipline of students.
- Be responsible for evening prep.
- Oversee boarding supervisors and ensure boarding staff keep their residential
Parents
- Communicate regularly with parents on general progress, events or disciplinary matters
- Meet with the parents of boarders at the beginning, end of each term and on travel
- Prepare student reports as required by Director of Boarding or Principal.
- Maintain and daily update boarding software program for communication and record
- Attendance at boarding “In-service” days at times allotted by Director of Boarding. These
- Administration of boarding files and documentation.
- Oversee leave procedures during the week, weekend, and term vacations.
- Oversee the security of boarding office.
- Ensure the Director of Boarding is adequately informed and up to date on student matters.
- Be responsible for the security of the boarding residences and reporting any maintenance
maintained.
- Actively involved in the boarding community attending all facets of boarding of life
- Accompany the Registrar or other staff members on regional or overseas trips as required
- Act as the Fire Evacuation Coordinator in the event of an evacuation. Coordinate the safe
