The Biodiversity Conservation Trust's Northern Inland Region is currently seeking to appoint an Ecologist to undertake ecological assessments and monitoring of Private Land Conservation (PLC) agreements, including providing technical advice to landholders.

About You

You will have proven ability to conduct field-based vegetation assessments and have the capacity to work collaboratively with a geographical dispersed team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist to gain experience in the Northern Inland region of NSW. You will join a dedicated and highly regarded team together with significant opportunity to be a key contributor to the delivery of the Biodiversity Conservation Trust's biodiversity conservation programs, projects and partnerships. Essential requirements?
  • Ecological or environmental science tertiary qualification
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking site assessment of biodiversity values, with an emphasis on native vegetation
  • Experience consistent with requirements for accreditation as an assessor using the Biodiversity Assessment Methodology
  • A current Australian Class C driver's licence and willingness to travel?

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment. The Trust's roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government's Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) and the BCT's private land conservation (PLC) programs

?

All new employees with an existing defined interest in the BOS will be required to disclose their personal (or a close family member's) participation to ensure potential conflicts are managed appropriately. In some circumstances this may require divestment of the interest.

?

The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
