The Strategy and Economic Development Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Leading the corporate planning function, including the production of key Council corporate documents – the Strategic Plan, Annual Plan and Annual Report;
- Providing high-quality corporate planning analysis, support, information, and advice, including organisational performance and risk management;
- Coordinating the delivery of the wider governance, policy, strategy, community, and economic development projects;
- Coordinating and facilitating community engagement and consultation related to the development/review of the Strategic Plan and related projects; and
- Supporting a team-based culture that fosters collaborative working relationships, innovation, continuous improvement, and effective performance.
Use corporate planning processes to assist Council to identify and determine clear priorities for action by supporting the Executive
Leadership Team, including assisting with the:
- Establishment of a governance framework and the approved Advisory Body structure;
- Strategic Plan review, preparation and annual progress reporting and review;
- Annual Plan review, preparation, and progress reporting;
- Assisting with the development and review of policy and maintaining the policy register; and
- Annual environmental scans of the Council’s operating environment. Economic Development Stimulate a prosperous economy within the Derwent Valley and a Council that is “open for business” assisting with the:
- Economic Development Strategy preparation, progress reporting and implementation;
- Design, management, and implementation of major economic development projects;
- Strengthening of relationships with the business sector and peak bodies;
- Maintaining relationships with other tiers of government in relation to economic development;
- Building and maintaining the economic profile of the Derwent
- Assisting with economic development enquiries.
Management and Reporting:
- Assist in the development of a corporate performanceframework;
- Responsible for the performance reporting in the Annual Report;
- Assist in developing systems and processes to gather and maintain data related to corporate performance measures.
- Identify and establish relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support and encourage participation in corporate planning processes and strategic projects;
- Work with other Council staff and stakeholders across the region on the Strategic Plan and other related workstreams to achieve efficiencies and regional alignment;
- Plan, organise and run engagement activities related to Council corporate planning and strategic projects, including preparation of consultation material and activities in partnership with the Communications Officer;
- Input, analyse, summarise, and report on public consultation submissions/engagement activities.

All Council staff, including General Manager and Executive Managers.
External Liaisons:
Members of the community, government agencies, solicitors, real estate agents etc. A high standard of professionalism and
customer service is mandatory, and the incumbent must display a positive and constructive approach towards Council and its activities.

Essential:
1. A tertiary qualification in a field relevant to corporate strategic planning and/or economic development or demonstrated experience in a similar role, i.e., public policy, social research, business, and/or related discipline;
2. Proven experience in building and maintaining strong and mutually-beneficial relationships throughout the workplace and with a range of external customers and stakeholders;
3. Project management skills;
4. Experience and knowledge of strategic planning and/or economic development, or a related field;
5. Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing, preparation of complex documentation and presentations with the ability to relate to people at all levels and to influence where appropriate;
6. Highly organised, with the appropriate time management skills to be able to meet deadlines under conflicting pressures while meeting customer expectations; and
7. Be able to provide innovative solutions/ideas.
Desirable:
- Local Government experience will be well regarded, particularly within a corporate strategy and economic development-related field;
- Well-developed group facilitation skills; and
- Working within a multi-disciplinary work environment is preferred.
