Job description

The Education Schemes Team provide financial assistance, student support services, guidance and counselling for eligible children to help them achieve their full potential in education or career training. The team is responsible for decision making and processing of claims for clients, in line with relevant legislation and policies. They also manage work associated with in-bound phone calls, emails and client engagement. 
 

The key duties of the position include:
  •  Assist with the administration of the Veterans' Children Education Scheme (VCES) and the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Education and Training Scheme (MRCAETS):

o    Interpret and apply VCES and MRCAETS legislation and policy guidelines, exercising delegations appropriate to the APS3 level.
o    Approve payment of Education Allowances, Additional Tuition, and other assistance including payment of accounts.
o    Assist with the identification of cases requiring escalation.
o    Assist with the identification, investigation and preparation of submissions for the recovery of payments made in excess of entitlements.

  • Provide a high level of customer service and engage with students, their families and support networks regarding the Education Schemes.  
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement activities, as required.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks, including preparation of statistical information, estimates of expenditure and other reports as required.
  • Contribute positively to organisational change and broader objectives.

 
Eligibility
  • Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
  • Applicants must have or the ability to gain Working with Vulnerable people registration, as per State legislation.

A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions within the next 18 months.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
