The Faculty of Science teaches approximately 7000 full-time student equivalents, with an academic staff of approximately 500 and general staff of 300. The Faculty is one of the largest and most complex faculties of UNSW Sydney. It comprises the School of Aviation, Biological Earth and Environmental Science (BEES), Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS), Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, and Physics. It also includes several major Research Centres and field stations.
The Education Support Officer – SciConnect plays a key role within UNSW Science in assisting with the implementation and evaluation of the SciConnect platform’s learning, teaching and assessment programs.
The role will work closely with the SciConnect Manager, the Director of Academic Programs, Academic Program Authorities and Course Convenors to support the delivery and development of the SciConnect platform.

$91k - $97k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
Fixed Term to 31st December 2023 (with possibility of extension based on performance and funding)

The role of Education Support Officer - SciConnect reports to the SciConnect Manager, supporting the UNSW Science Education Team, the Director of Academic Programs and the Deputy Dean of Education.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
Support the implementation and evaluation of learning, teaching and assessment within SciConnect.
Assist in the design and development of course curriculum, providing platform-specific technology support, working alongside subject matter experts / specialists to achieve desired outcomes.
Coordinate the technical implementation, development and expansion of the SciConnect platform.
Respond to requests from the SciConnect Manager and Academic Convenor and provide proactive advice and solution-focused action in a timely and accurate manner.
Support continuous improvement through proactively identifying areas for development, supporting the outcomes of SciConnect.
Maintain relationships, engagement and consultation with stakeholders including, students, professional and academic staff and Heads of School.
Collate and maintain reporting data and documentation.
Use Moodle and SIMS to export student data and maintain student records using Excel. Manually upload student records into the SciConnect platform to ensure point allocation.
Coordinate platform relevant student engagement initiatives including, feedback and consultation, communications, events and on-campus activations.
Supervise the daily tasks of student staff/volunteers, including timesheet processes, facilitating weekly meetings, defining and communicating task requirements, coordinating recruitment processes as required, coordinating AHEGS accreditation as required.
Act as the first point of contact for student user enquiries by responding to email enquiries, escalating issues to management as needed and being present at events/on-campus activations as required.
Provide administrative support to the SciConnect team by organising and recording meetings, maintaining the team Outlook inbox, maintaining the Teams site, filing and maintaining accurate records, coordinating on-campus initiatives and events as required and coordinating platform communications, and performing other ad hoc duties as required.

About the successful applicant
(Selection criteria)
To be successful in this role you will have:
Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated experience in the design and development of course curriculum.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Moodle, SIMS, website administration systems, Sharepoint and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
