The Role
One position is available, responsible for managing DIG Estate Property and Minor Projects teams delivering property services in the ACT, NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
As the EL1 DIG Estate Property and Minor Projects Manager you will:
- Manage the DIG Estate Property functions, including minor works and refurbishments, across a dispersed property portfolio.
- Plan, lead, mentor and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. These resources are based in Canberra and in regional sites (e.g. AGO Bendigo, Hydrographic Office Wollongong, South Australia).
- Manage the implementation and prioritisation of strategic estate maintenance plans and works within Security & Estate Group (SEG) Estate Works Program (EWP).
- Draft responses to correspondence, briefs and reports related to the DIG Estate.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with DIG business areas, SEG elements, and service providers.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and Defence subject matter experts to resolve DIG property issues.
- Design and implement solutions to issues impacting the achievement of desired DIG strategic property management outcomes, including development of business plans and strategies in accordance with outcomes.
- Analyse current and emerging Defence estate related issues, and recommend solutions to achieve business outcomes.
- Provide clear and consistent communication, set clear performance and behavioural standards, manage performance, delegate responsibility and guide and develop people.
- Drive a safety culture through leading by example, coaching and developing the team to ensure safety compliance is a priority.
- Work with SEG to ensure that legislative/regulatory requirements are met.
About our Team
DIG has an extensive and growing property portfolio located throughout the Australian mainland, its territories and overseas. In conjunction with Defence estate and infrastructure delivery arms, DIG’s Estate Planning and Property function team is responsible for the delivery of estate management and property services, and provision of strategic estate planning advice and accommodation management that collectively ensure the DIG estate is safe, fit-for-purpose, secure and supports the DIG’s activities and outcomes.
The DIG Estate Planning and Property team is dispersed across key sites including Canberra, Bendigo, Wollongong and Adelaide. The property management functions are delivered from core buildings in these locations, while the planning and accommodation team work closely with Defence partner agencies, predominantly at Brindabella Park in Canberra.
As a new directorate, the DIG Estate Planning and Property team is growing its workforce to position it to meet current and future surge across the accommodation management, estate strategic planning and property management functions.

- Strong technical experience working in the Defence Property environment.
- Experience in vendor management for specialised services.
- An understanding of the technical aspects of property (Air-conditioning, Chiller system, Fire Protection system, Mechanical & Electrical system, Building Management System).
- A good understanding of complex building systems and services.
- Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety and legislative/compliance requirements.
- Budget management skills.
- Ability to work cohesively and to lead a small team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing diverse stakeholders.
