The role of Director WHS is responsible for building a mature safety culture that improves work, health and safety within JOC Group; establishing programs, processes and work practices that support the safe delivery of JOC activities, actions and operations and integrating Defence and legislative safety management requirements.
The role will exercise a significant degree of independence and perform an important leadership role. The role of Director WHS provides specialist knowledge of WHS legislation, relevant Defence policies, guidelines and programs and timely and efficient service delivery to support better work practices, highest level of WHS performance and regulatory compliance in an operational environment and context.
The Director will work collaboratively with JOC leadership to embed and promote a safe and healthy work culture across the Group.
About our Team
The WHS team is a small, dynamic team that work collaboratively to provide expert strategic WHS advice to the JOC Senior Leadership Group leading the application of WHS assurance activities, including incident investigations, and audits.

To succeed in this role you must have personal drive and integrity with the ability to:
- Provide expert strategic WHS advice to JOC Senior Leadership ensuring full understanding of common law, legislative and policy duties and obligations.
- Leading the development and sustainment of WHS practices across all programs, operations and exercises to ensure JOC Group is capable of delivering safe operations, actions and activities.
- Shape the WHS input into both strategic and tactical level of JOC Group exercises and operations.
- Assess trends in WHS performance to identify high risk areas and design remediation strategies.
- Analyse and design safety management systems in accordance with the legislation, Defence policies and procedures.
