The Role
Within CASG, the Joint Systems Division (JSD) is responsible for acquiring, and in many cases integrating and sustaining, command and control systems, deployable networks systems, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare systems, communications systems and satellites.

Reporting to the Branch Head, the Systems Program Office (SPO) Director manages the delivery of large complex programs delivering multiple, highly complex capabilities in support of the Joint Force effects through to the ADF. This is achieved through the provision of proven leadership, ensuring the application of strong security controls and governance processes, and providing confidence to the Capability Manager and Senior Leaders that the capability meets the approved requirements.

Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Engagement with key stakeholders such as the Capability Manager, Industry partners and senior leaders across Defence.
Provide excellent leadership, management and interpersonal skills and provide strategic direction to ensure a high-level of integration and consistency across all aspects of the Capability Program Architecture.
Build and sustain highly productive relationships with internal and external stakeholder including senior level Capability Manager Representatives and Industry Partners, all of whom contribute to the successful delivery of ADF capabilities.

This position is part of an expanded Executive Level 2 classification. The successful applicant will be appointed to the Executive Level 2 classification level with a salary at the top of the Executive Level 2 range ($150,785). A temporary movement to the Executive Level 2.1 classification, may result in an enhanced salary offering on a temporary basis and reviewed annually.

About our Team
The Joint Systems Division (JSD) within CASG acquires and provides through-life support to a range of command and control systems, communications, satellites and tactical interoperability systems, and electronic warfare systems.

The Division is functionally arranged in three separate but interlinked Branches with a geographic presence in all of the Australian mainland states and territories and with a small headquarters element in Canberra. The Division’s prime and over-riding focus is to provide the best possible support to the ADF employing the materiel provided in protecting Australia’s interests.

The Systems Project Office (SPO) Director vacancies within JSD will manage large complex programs and report directly to the Assistant Secretary of a JSD Branch. The main function of the team which the SPO Director will be accountable and responsible for, is to deliver Systems or Equipment through to the Capability Manager, on time, on budget and to requirements. This includes engaging with key stakeholders such as the Capability Manager, Industry partners and senior leaders across Defence.

The SPO Director will be responsible for ensuring the activities performed within their Systems Program Office supports the delivery of Joint Force effects through to the ADF. This requires the SPO Director to manage projects and products at a programmatic level, where trade-offs are considered through a risk-based decision making process. The SPO Director will ensure their team develops strong security controls and governance processes that gives confidence to the Capability Manager and Senior Leaders that the capability meets the approved requirements.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will possess a proven ability to lead a large, diverse, multi-disciplinary team across all aspects of the capability life cycle, and a thorough understanding of Defence’s Capability Policy Framework and Capability Program Architecture, or the ability to quickly acquire this understanding.

You will possess sound commercial and business acumen and a demonstrated understanding of the Defence Industry sector in Australia.

You will be innovative and adaptive and be required to take a risk-based and flexible approach to the delivery of outcomes.

You will be a highly effective communicator, who is collaborative, agile and can effectively lead a diverse, highly integrated workforce of sustainment, acquisition, business, engineering and logistics teams to achieve delivery of capability for the Capability Manager.

You will be able to demonstrate a high level of commitment to ongoing reform activities such as progressing the recommendations of Lead the Way: Defence Transformation Strategy.

PLEASE NOTE:
Applicants will be required to acknowledge / agree that they may need to undertake a Positive Vetting security clearance process within 12 months of commencing in the role.
