Job description

At Officeworks we make bigger things happen. Our customers, our team, and our community are our heart and soul. And if our brilliant people have taught us anything, it is that we can do all kinds of incredible things, each and every day.

Fast paced. Innovative. Inspiring. With close to 10000 team members and a national footprint of more than 168 retail stores Australia wide – we’re focused on delivering a wide range, low price and great service. We’re about inspiring new ideas and thinking outside the box. We’re about kicking goals, having a laugh and pushing each other. We are about being rewarded and supported. We’re about teaching a customer something new and supporting the community. We’re about making a difference.

Are you a passionate Employment Law Specialist seeking a dynamic inhouse role? Officeworks is looking for a dedicated ER Manager to join our People Strategy & Services team. Reporting directly to the Head of People Advisory, you will play a pivotal role in providing ER leadership and strategic advice across our diverse business units.

What You'll Be Doing:

Developing ER Strategy: Assist in the development and lead the implementation of an Employee Relations strategy spanning Officeworks' operations, encompassing Stores, Support Offices, Customer Fulfilment Centres, and Customer Service Centre.

Coaching and Support: Mentor and guide the ER team and management stakeholders in achieving effective Employee Relations solutions through proactive learning and development initiatives.

Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert, collaborating with stakeholders to foster best practices in Employee Relations, advising on policies, compliance, and emerging trends.

Complex Case Management: Serve as the escalation point for all intricate ER matters, including case management, terminations, and performance issues.

Litigation Management: Manage workplace litigation matters, coordinating with external advisors and preparing necessary documentation.

Risk Mitigation: Ensure business compliance with regulatory requirements across APAC markets, minimizing risk exposure.

We offer great flexibility working in a hybrid working model, where you will be in the office 2-3 days per week and the rest of your week from home.

You are a commercially astute professional with a deep-seated passion for Employment Law and extensive experience in Employee Relations. You are passionate and have demonstrated experience achieving practical/pragmatic outcomes, that sees a win for team and a win for business. Your track record includes successfully developing and implementing ER strategies with the complexities of retail and supply chain industries in mind. Leadership experience, coupled with a knack for influencing senior stakeholders and building enduring relationships, makes you a standout candidate for this role.

Further you have:

  • Extensive experience engaging with external regulatory bodies such as the Fair Work Commission, Employee Groups/Unions, and other State Regulators.
  • Expert knowledge of modern awards, employment legislation and National Employment Standards.
  • A customer focused mindset with the ability to work with a range of people and at all levels across the organisation.

Key Attributes:

Relationship Builder: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a talent for cultivating positive and impactful relationships.

Communicator: Strong verbal and written communication abilities to effectively convey complex information.

Problem Solver: Proven ability to identify root causes and implement practical solutions to workplace challenges.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail combined with outstanding time management skills.

Expert Knowledge: In-depth familiarity with modern awards, employment legislation, and National Employment Standards.
