This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 18 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of three years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
We are looking for motivated people to fill a number of roles in engagement teams across a range of locations in the Northern Territory, including Darwin, regional towns and remote communities. You will be working in diverse teams and engaging with First Nations communities and service providers to deliver outcomes in line with community aspirations on behalf of the Australian Government.

The occupants of these roles will work on implementing and delivering range of government initiatives and commitments that support and improve the well-being of First Nations People.
As an Engagement Assistant Director (EL1), key responsibilities in addition to the above include:
Work strategically with a considerable degree of independence, under broad direction from the Engagement Director
Undertake regular travel to regional towns and remote First Nations communities
Lead a team of Engagement Officers and Engagement Team Leaders to plan and deliver the NIAA's work program across a particular region or group of First Nations communities
Oversee the development, coaching and mentoring of this team
Understand the NIAA’s broad strategic environment and translate the NIAA's vision for staff, building a sense of collective purpose and direction to support the delivery of outcomes
Draft ministerial briefings and correspondence and provide quality assurance services
Develop and maintain complex internal and external relationships with key NIAA stakeholders, providing appropriate advice and managing the resolution of issues or complaints
Provide expert advice and interpretation within technical or professional area, including preparing relevant strategic advice where appropriate
Undertake complex procedural, administrative and service related tasks that support NIAA business activities or management of a project
Create a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture and how it influences the workplace and interactions, is understood
Guide the implementation of culturally appropriate strategies for working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
In addition, some regional and remote-based positions may be eligible for:
Reasonable relocation support can be negotiated on case-by-case basis
Remote Locality Allowance
Additional Annual Leave of seven (7) days per-annum (as a remote locality)
Eligible dependant/s (partner/ children) who reside with the employee, access to annual remote locality leave fare/s.
