About the role and you:
The Safer Smarter Infrastructure (SSI) Business Group believe that they can reduce harm to all people by making transport infrastructure safer, they do this by challenging, testing, forming and applying international best practice in road safety. The SSI team based in Port Melbourne is seeking a highly motivated engineer/scientist with a strong transportation infrastructure safety focus to join our team. The successful candidate will be willing to challenge the status quo, innovate, and deliver outcomes in the pursuit of technical excellence. If you share these values, then we’d like to speak to you.
The SSI team offer the ability to be involved in projects across Australia and the possibility of international project works as part of NTRO’s expanding international presence. Working with industry and government we proactively progress the adoption of new design and traffic methods and to save lives and improve the efficient movement of goods and people.
You would be joining an integrated and dynamic national team that make a difference by saving lives and reducing road trauma using innovative and practical transport solutions.
In this integral role, you will have the scope to lead projects, create new opportunities, enhance client relationships, and deliver quality outputs with the wider SSI team on a Local, State, National and potentially International scale.
We are looking for talented applicants who can offer practical ‘can do’ skills with a strong background in applied safety knowledge from within industry, consultancy, or State/Local Government.
Key attributes: Seeking a professional with 5 to 10 years industry-related safety experience. First-principles knowledge and an ability to scope and manage multi-faceted projects (including the management of sub-contractors). You will need to have confidence and interest to develop innovative transport safety/traffic/design solutions for transport agencies, private road operators, local government, and mining/rail/aviation/port industries.
In this position you will:
Project manage all technical aspects of a project
Undertake applied research using a first-principles approach to provide innovative and practical solutions that can be implemented to improve transport safety.
Develop new and effective road safety policy and technical guidance for industry practitioners.
Provide expert consulting and technical advice to government, road managers, industry, and other stakeholders.
Develop new and foster existing client relationships to develop consulting and research-based projects and programs.
Deliver training to industry practitioners as part of NTROs knowledge transfer program ‘ARRB iMPACT’.
Represent NTRO through publishing research and technical papers and presenting at National and International conferences.
Coach and mentor junior staff to ensure their development.
We seek an individual who has:
Bachelors of Engineering or equivalent tertiary degree
5 to 10 years’ relevant transportation safety-related experience.
Expertise in safety/traffic/design engineering within the road, rail, ports & airports arena
Strong project management skills.
Strong report writing skills including strong proficiency in English and grammar.
Demonstrated ability to project lead a team to a successful outcome.
Ability to identify key areas of legislation, standards, and guidance.
