The Opportunity
Alstom’s V/Line Maintenance project is responsible for the management of the maintenance of the V/Line Rolling Stock Fleet. As the Engineering Manager in the Classic Fleet team, you will be leading a team maintain V/Line’s Classic Fleet of 1950s-1990s built locomotives, carriages and Sprinter DMUs. These trains are a key part of the V/Line Fleet, transporting passengers throughout regional Victoria. The successful applicant will be working on critical tasks to improve the safety and performance of the V/Line Classic Fleet.
The Classic Fleet Engineering team are based at our West Melbourne Depot, they provide technical engineering support to the Alstom Maintenance team and V/Line. This role is ideal for an experienced leader, with highly developed communication skills, who can draw upon their engineering knowledge, analytical and problem solving skills to improve safety, availability and reliability. This position requires a hands-on inquisitive engineer who is seeking a dynamic and varied role within a maintenance engineering team.
You will propose and develop safe, compliant, practical, cost effective engineering solutions. Working across all systems on the V/Line Classic Fleet, including braking & door systems, diesel engines as well as staff and customer amenities. Existing experience in rail or an equivalent industry is desirable. The successful candidate will be leading safety and reliability investigations to identify the root cause and implement workable solutions; developing maintenance standards and instructions; and assisting Procurement to identify and address component obsolescence.

To be successful in the role, you will have;
Significant experience leading a multidisciplinary team
Service, design and/or commissioning experience, preferably on rail vehicles
A strong understanding of the interface between electrical, mechanical and pneumatic equipment
Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to target your audience
An understanding of the principles of asset management and the development of preventative maintenance regimes
Experience in the development of maintenance plans and instructions
The ability to provide on-the-spot problem analysis and engineering advice to management and technical personnel
A desire to continuously improve yourself and the environment around you
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or similar)
Experience in a regulated industry eg. rail, defence, mining or transport is desirable
