As the Environmental Compliance Officer, you will join on an initial 6-12 month contract with a view to being added to the Council team on a permanent basis. This is essentially, the best of both worlds with you being able to try before you buy whilst also receiving a very generous hourly rate whilst doing so!!
In your new role, you will work in the Planning & Compliance division of Council, where you will ensure ongoing community compliance in relation to development and building control, environmental protection and public health and safety. This is a role for someone who loves being busy and seeing things through from start to finish. Your days will literally fly by if you love what you do!!
On any particular day you could be undertaking any of the following duties:
- Investigating matters of public health and safety.
- Investigating breaches of development and building consents.
- Investigating breaches of unauthorised land uses.
- Investigating land, noise, air and water pollution offences.
- Reviewing environmental and planning reports.
- Presenting evidence in relation to legal proceedings on behalf of Council in the Local and Land and Environment Courts.
We would also love to see the following key criteria in candidates:
1. Applicants currently studying, or ideally holding, a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or related discipline
2. Sound experience and proficient in applying the regulatory controls pursuant to the building certification framework
3. Sound experience and proficient in applying the regulatory controls pursuant to the town planning framework
4. Sound experience and proficient in applying the regulatory controls pursuant to the environmental and health framework
5. Experience with preparing briefs of evidence and providing evidence at Court Hearings
6. Experience in issuing Notices and Orders
7. Previous experience in reviewing environmental and planning documents and reports
