About the job
Inherent to our values is the protection of the environment and our commitment to the highest standards of performance. In this newly created role, you will provide environmental governance and compliance leadership to our Australian operations that will support a diverse portfolio of environmental aspects inclusive of contaminated sites, water, air, odour, waste, EMS and dangerous goods management.
Reporting into our Regional Environmental Manager and joining our corporate environmental function located at our head office in Booragoon, in this integral role you will ensure that our locations have the proper governance and management system in place to sustain compliance with applicable requirements and permit/license terms and conditions.
Key resonsibilities and contributions will include:
Working closely with Australian operations to ensure programs necessary to demonstrate compliance with State and Commonwealth law and regulations are implemented and maintained.
Proactively identifying potentially applicable environmental headwinds, raising concerns and challenges to internal stakeholders for further attention.
Managing and administering the region’s internal environmental self-assessment process and ISO14001 management system.
Supporting the Alcoa incident and compliance case management process, including incident investigations for the most material incidents.
Participating in the CapEx project review process for projects that have an environmental impact triggering approval or licensing processes.
Representing Alcoa in community stakeholder and regulatory engagement meetings at both a local and state level to support a strategic approach to the management and improvement of operations.
Connecting Operations, Asset Management, CapEx, Procurement, Legal, Public Affairs and Social Performance to ensure the integration of environmental compliance strategies and needs.
Providing assessments of environmental compliance for joint ventures, potential acquisitions, and new project proposals.
Driving the sharing of compliance solutions and best practices among the region, and global operations.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or related field of study with substantial experience working within a similar environmental / compliance management capacity.
Advanced knowledge of State environmental requirements as they apply to the mining and refining industry would be desirable.
Demonstrated ability working effectively with regulators, consultants, and other third-party organisations.
Effective verbal and written communication skills that thrives in a diverse work environment building positive and collaborative relationships and partnerships.
A strategic and analytical mindset with demonstrated ability in solving complex environmental challenges
The drive for continuous improvement in environmental compliance and operational risk management.
Demonstrated team management experience with a collaborative leadership style that sets clear team expectations and empowers their people to succeed.
Flexibility and willingness to travel across our WA & VIC operations as required.
