About the role

We are currently seeking applications for a Family Support Worker & Domestic Family Violence (DFV) Support Worker on a full-time basis, working 75 hours per fortnight at the Strathpine venue.This position is on a fixed term basis until 28 June 2026, with potential to extend.

This a fantastic opportunity for the successful applicant to gain experience and reach across two of RAQ’s vital positions, working 30 hours p/fortnight in the DFV Support Worker role, and 45 hours p/fortnight in the Family Support Worker role.

The purpose of both roles is to provide expert DFV support, assessment and service delivery guidance to employees and clients engaged in the FRC, also providing support for parents and the community, on nurturing the development of children and families through group work, education groups, and individual counselling and referral, with a focus on prevention and early intervention.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Delivering support and guidance to clients and employees, by applying a theoretical knowledge of domestic and family violence, specifically social justice, social constructionist, feminist perspectives, and other relevant models, that support frameworks that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for both our first nation’s people and CALD groups. 
  • Applying therapeutic crisis counselling to individuals affected by domestic and family violence by employing contemporary theoretical and evidence-based approaches to inform counselling treatment for individuals.
  • Providing therapeutic counselling as required to individuals affected by domestic and family violence.
  • Applying theoretical knowledge of adult and child learning styles, child development, and community capacity building to develop, document and deliver group work and education programs aimed at promoting the safety and wellbeing of children/young people and developing or enhancing parenting skills.
  • Providing brief intervention counselling to parents, care providers, children, and families, using appropriate interventions.
  • Displaying knowledge relating to child protection issues, including the impact of neglect, physical and emotional harm on children/young people, to provide effective prevention and early intervention strategies.
  • Networking and developing collaborative relationships with relevant government organisations and community agencies to build community capacity, to successfully link children, young people and adults to other support services.
  • Conducting client assessment and intake of client needs to make client appointments, provide relevant information and make appropriate referrals.
  • Maintaining documentation and processes to assist in the referral suitability of the FRC, including consideration of any available FDR and DFV service delivery requirements.

Workdays/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant, however, please note you may be required to work an evening shift which can be between the hours of 10:30am and 8pm weekly, with some flexibility needed in order to meet business requirements

The salary being offered is between $81,368.45 to $95,092.19 per annum, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.

About you

To be successful in this position, you will:

  • Possess appropriate undergraduate qualifications in Behavioural Science, Psychology, Counselling or Social Work
  • Demonstrate experience and theoretical knowledge of working with children and their parents/care providers in relation to child development, abuse and/or neglect.
  • Demonstrate experience in application of practice frameworks for working with families impacted by Domestic and Family Violence, along with risk assessment and implementation of safety strategies
  • Have previous experience in the delivery of counselling to couples and/or families, across the lifespan, coupled with knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations relating to relationships counselling.
  • Additionally, knowledge around Rainbow Program Desired:
    • Have ability to apply knowledge of issues specific to the LGBTIQ+ and/or willing to specialise.
    • Apply relevant practice frameworks including queer affirmative practice and/or willing to specialise.
