The AWAHS Dhelk DjaFamily Violence team supports victim survivors and their children to remain safely within their community and maintain a life free of violence while also addressing the emotional and practical needs and issues arising from the violence.
The Case Manager is required to assess family violence risks and work intensively with victim survivors and their children to identify goals and to work alongside the family to achieve them.
The Dhelk DjaFamily violence program aims to keep women and children safe and encourage their healing and resilience through individual support and group work. The role of the family and community in ‘growing up’ the child, building their sense of belonging and resilience, educating them about their aboriginal culture, will be integral to the development and operation of the program.
You will build positive relationships and networks with relevant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal support organisations, services and the Police to ensure that appropriate referrals and supports are put in place.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete and provide a phone assessment, intake, induction and orientation for new clients
- Complete intake paperwork and obtain informed consent
- Build rapport and establish effective relationships that support service delivery and help clients to feel welcome and safe
- Support case planning by discussing, promoting and assisting with case planning tasks that have been determined by the Family Case Worker and the client
- Assist clients with immediate safety needs that may include mindfulness, de-escalation, hospital assistance, family support, relocation, police assistance, etc.
- Take the opportunity to provide family education, family violence education and parenting support
- Enjoy both responding to client needs and proactively developing and delivering health promotion and early intervention responses
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Certificate III or higher qualifications relevant to the role plus relevant experience in the field
- Understanding of the current health issues relevant to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities
- Demonstrated high level of written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Advanced computer literacy
- Sound knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, Information Sharing and Multi Agency Risk Assessment Framework (MARAM)
- An understanding the issues of family violence and the impact on women, children and families in an Aboriginal context

- Current Drivers Licence
- Complete and appropriate Health Declaration Form
