About the role

We are looking for a Field Studies & Monitoring Advisor for a ground-breaking closure project where you will play a part in the execution of key field programs, making a true impact to the successful rehabilitation and positive legacy of Jabiru. This role will focus on supporting the Field Studies team to ensure the ongoing successful closure of the former Ranger Mine.

This role would suit an environmental generalist or person who specialises in terrestrial ecology, aquatic ecology, rehabilitation, or similar. There is also opportunity for the successful applicant to contribute to a range of studies across environmental disciplines relevant to mine closure, such as contamination, radiation, surface water, ground water, landform establishment, erosion and sedimentation.

The key responsibility of the Field Studies & Monitoring Advisor include:

  • Assist in the development and safe and effective implementation of various field-based environmental studies and monitoring programs
  • Participate in regular field-based data collection and reporting
  • Provide high quality management and interpretation of data
  • Support integration with the technical studies team and quality assurance of supporting Field Studies and monitoring
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, government and/or Traditional Owner groups

The role will preferentially include a 5/2/4/3 fortnight roster and be Bus In Bus Out (BIBO) between Darwin and Jabiru. There is potential for the role to utilise a 5/2 weekly roster and be residentially based in Jabiru.

What you will bring

Mandatory

  • NT Driver's Licence (or ability to obtain NT licence on relocation)
  • Experience working in remote and/or hot/humid environments
  • A passion for regularly working outdoors
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

Very Important

  • Qualification in environmental science or a related field
  • Fieldwork experience
  • Attention to detail
  • High level of organisational and data management skills
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Familiarity with local terrestrial and/or aquatic flora/fauna species
  • Experience working on mine sites
  • Experience working in northern Australian savannah
  • Experience in use and maintenance of field survey equipment
  • Experience conducting monitoring programs

Where you will be working

The former Ranger Uranium mine is located on Aboriginal land in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers Region of the Northern Territory. It is surrounded by, but separate from, the dual world-heritage listed Kakadu National Park.

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto as its major shareholder. ERA mined and produced uranium oxide from Ranger from 1980 until 2021; the site is now in closure and rehabilitation.
