  • Full time ongoing role
  • Located on Park in Yathong (staff housing subsidy available)

About the Role

As a Field Supervisor, you’ll work closely with Rangers and contractors in setting planning priorities and identifying and prioritising works programs to deliver upgrades to a complex network for fire trails within sensitive natural environments across a diverse geographical area. You’ll be relied upon to supervise and co-ordinate work crews along with associated administrative and record keeping duties. This is a hands-on role which may also involve assisting with construction and maintenance, protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites and the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment. You will directly supervise field staff, contractors and subcontractors.

The West Branch manages over 150 parks and reserves, in an area that covers more than 1.85 million hectares or 50% of New South Wales. We protect a broad range of species, such as the only NSW population of yellow-footed rock wallabies, and several wetlands of international significance (Ramsar). We manage several feral predator-free areas where locally extinct species are being reintroduced. Many of our parks, including the Aboriginal-owned Mutawintji and Mount Grenfell national parks, have joint management agreements in place with Aboriginal communities.

About You

A strong leader, you’ll be experienced in managing a dynamic team and managing multiple projects at once. Your organisational skills and adaptability will be key to your success, coupled with exceptional communication skills and ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders. Your integrity and outcomes focus will be an asset in this role and will be key in assisting to support the delivery of project plans and general team operations.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Australian driver’s license
  • Demonstrated well-developed supervisory and team leadership skills for the implementation of field and operational activities, including the construction and maintenance of walking tracks and park facilities, and pest plant and animal control.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in cost estimation, budgeting and planning and programming.
  • Experience or detailed knowledge of various trades.
  • Ability and demonstrated experience to undertake crew leadership in fire management.
  • Relevant SafeWork NSW certification, ability and experience in the operation of machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance/construction work, including chainsaws to basic tree felling standard.

This role includes firefighting related activities and is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining NSW’s most precious natural places. Field Supervisors must meet the requirements of a specific medical with a clearance to undertake the fitness test to a moderate level, and task based physical assessment in order to undertake this role.

The role holder will need to obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.

Notes:

  • Successful applicants must pass the following within a probationary period of 12 months: certification as Fire Crew Member; Senior First Aid and 4WD certification.
  • Prior to undertaking ground or aerial firefighting and/or incident control duties, the incumbent must obtain, and maintain currency in, appropriate levels of national firefighting competencies.
  • All required training and assessments will be provided by EHG.
