About the Opportunity

As part of the Rapid Response/City Cleansing Team, your main focus in this role will be operation of the road sweeper and mini broom duties.  You will also be required to assist in the delivery of Council’s maintenance programs and cleaning tasks associated to ensure the Council area is maintained to an appropriate standard that reflects a welcoming, safe and active community.

You will be required to perform the Rapid Response and City Cleansing duties as outlined in the Position Description.  In particular, this role will focus on but is not limited to:

• Street sweeper operations which will be a requirement for this role (main responsibility) 
• Beach cleaning in line with scheduled programs Foreshore cleaning in line with scheduled programs 
• Installation and repair of signage, fencing and traffic bollards
• Stormwater maintenance as required
• Maintenance and minor repairs to Council infrastructure
• Graffiti removal and pressure cleaning
• Reactive tasks such as dumped rubbish collection and event set-up/pack-up
• Internal maintenance and repairs as requested 

If you hold a relevant minimum Certificate III qualification (as listed below) the position will be offered on a permanent basis. 

If you have the relevant experience but do not hold a qualification you will be employed as an adult apprentice and required to undertake a Certificate III in a relevant field, which will be funded by Council over a 3-year fixed term. Upon successful completion of the required qualification, you may be permanently converted to a fulltime Fieldworker within our Rapid Response/City Cleansing Team.

The right person will have skills and experience in the following:

• Certificate III Qualification in relevant area (eg) Mechanical, Civil, Boiler Maker, Cabinet Making, Carpentry/Joinery, Cleaning Operations
• White Card (Essential) 
• Unencumbered MR Australian Drivers Licence (Essential)
• Operating a sweeper truck
• Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Accreditation or willingness to obtain
• Safe use and maintenance of equipment, machinery and tools
