Located 320 kms south of Darwin, Katherine has an urban population of approximately 6,500, covers 530 sq kms and is widely regarded as the place where the “outback meets the tropics”. Reporting directly to the Director Corporate Services, you will be a key and influential member of Council’s leadership team and responsible for the overall finance functions of the organisation, including management reporting, audit processes, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and rate receivals. From a leadership perspective, you will direct and oversee continuous improvement initiatives across a broad range of financially related processes and operational activities on a business-wide basis.
A highly experienced financial generalist with strong leadership experience, your technical skill will include an in-depth knowledge of contemporary payroll processes, understanding of grants & acquittals, exceptional report writing, financial and management accounting skills including end of month management reporting, EOFY reporting and audit. A background in Local Government is ideal, but not essential. Non-negotiables however will include highly tuned communication skills, an uncompromised focus on customer service, ability to work with stringent deadlines, the confidence to implement your own ideas and initiatives, and to work both autonomously and as part of a close-knit, collaborative team.
