CSIRO are seeking experienced Finance & Project Advisors to play a key role in contributing to CSIRO’s Finance Transformation. You’ll focus on standardising operations across the service catalogue and join a passionate Finance Team, while engaging with a range of stakeholders across the organisation.


As the Finance & Project Advisor, you’ll be accountable for all aspects of the Financial Management service catalogue including planning, budgeting, reporting, costing and establishing projects, and preparing financial acquittals. You’ll deliver financial outcomes within a strong governance framework and be a trusted advisor for research programs at a program and project level.


Your knowledge of finance systems and processes, gives you the necessary tools to analyse complexity and show initiative in your role. You possess flexibility to work within an ever-changing environment and strong communication skills to build relationships across the business.

Your duties will include:


  • Providing accurate and compliant financial management advice to research programs at both program and project level.
  • Using CSIRO financial management systems to report accurate financials both internally and externally.
  • Showing initiative in interpreting policies and procedures, and developing systems.
  • Liaising with clients using finance expertise to anticipate their needs and developing policies, procedures and systems to make recommendations for decisions.
  • Ensuring the relevance of activities and achievements of team objectives, through liaising with clients and wider enterprise support groups.
  • Taking personal responsibility for client satisfaction, correcting problems promptly and constructively ensuring a standard service framework is utilised.
  • Pro-actively and positively participating in the Finance Transformation Program as CSIRO seeks to standardise its operations; improve its efficiency and refine its service delivery mode.
  • Other duties as directed.

Location: Marsfield NSW, Newcastle NSW, Black Mountain ACT, Adelaide SA or Brisbane QLD.

Salary: AU$87k - AU$98k pa (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Specified term of 18 months. Full-time or Part-time (negotiable)

To be considered you will need:


  • A tertiary qualification in accounting or finance or relevant work experience in a financial environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of finance systems and processes, that enable stakeholders to achieve their responsibilities around project management, accountability and compliance. Experience in the extraction and reporting of information using finances systems and Microsoft Office suite programs.
  • Ability to ensure data integrity through demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and analyse complex or ill-defined problems and develop appropriate alternative solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and an ability to provide financial management advice to ensure stakeholders are accurately advised in order to make informed decisions.
  • Flexibility to contribute to multiple teams, manage multiple priorities, support various staff needs and participate in ongoing knowledge transfer across Finance.
  • High level interpersonal skills including an ability to establish strong relationships and networks with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
