Our opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Controller - Commercial & Mixed Use to join our Sydney team. You will actively contribute to the financial reporting, financial risk management, internal control framework, budgeting and forecasting for the division. In doing so, the Financial Controller will partner closely with the General Manager Finance, broader Group Advisory Services team and other divisions and functions in an effort to standardise and streamline finance processes, whilst also ensuring the adoption of best practice.
Your responsibilities are but no limited to;
People: Build a high performing finance team to support Commercial & Mixed Use, fostering close collaboration within both C&MU and the Group Advisory Solutions function and across divisions and functions, in a manner that maximises business outcomes. Actively develop people, culture and capability within own team whilst contributing to the culture of the broader team.
Strategy: Support the General Manager of Finance in development and execution of the strategy by providing analysis and insights to support informed decision making.
Business Unit Performance: Delivery of all financial and management reporting and analysis activities for the Commercial & Mixed Use division; this includes co-ordination of engagement across Group Advisory Solutions, external auditors, external joint venture partners and other stakeholders as required. Support the implementation of the performance management framework to improve timeliness and quality of information for decision making.
Business Unit Planning: Co-ordination of the annual budgeting process across Commercial & Mixed Use. Responsibility for completion of reporting and analysis at a portfolio level.
Financial Control and Governance: Ensure robust and reliable controls are in place to support data integrity across the reporting and systems platform. Identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve financial management processes to ensure efficient, transparent and effective processes, controls and governance.
Policies: Perform regular reviews of finance related policies and where required, develop new policies to support Commercial & Mixed Use.
Risk Management: Partner with Group Risk to assist in developing and maintaining a strong risk-based culture and environment, with risk profiles, risk assessments and control self-assessments operating effectively.
Cost Base: Assist in the management of overheads for Commercial & Mixed Use through the provision of timely reporting and analysis
Transaction Support: Support the General Manager of Finance in reviewing the technical accounting implications of commercial transactions including the preparation of accounting papers and any resulting changes to policies and processes. Maintain knowledge of current accounting and tax legislation, undertaking appropriate training as necessary.
Your point of difference
CA / CPA qualified; or other relevant tertiary education and extensive property experience
Strong technical accounting skills, with experience in material commercial transactions
Demonstrated background in building and managing finance teams and financial deliverables across financial control and analysis
Experience as a business partner, with the ability to partner with both financial and non-financial professionals
Leadership, managing and influencing multiple stakeholders and driving continuous improvement
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills with the courage to challenge assumptions and provide solutions
Ability to develop and maintain a high performing team of professionals
