Selection Criteria
SC1. Have the necessary qualifications in First Aid delivery (Level 2 First Aid, anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes training)
SC2. Proven ability to respond to emergency incidences in an education setting and an understanding of the role of First Aid officer in a school for students with health needs.
SC3. Well-developed communications & interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with students, staff and parents in a polite and courteous manner; whilst maintaining high levels of confidentiality and professional conduct.
SC4. Demonstrated initiative to work efficiently and independently to address student first-aid needs as well as working as part of a team.
SC5. Knowledge of and experience in the daily operations of a busy Sick Bay with the ability to maintain appropriate documentation including record keeping, medical plans, and assessments of students.
Role
Position Summary
To act swiftly, compassionately, efficiently, and effectively in providing the first aid needs to the students and staff of Tarneit Senior College.
Attending to students, staff and others who are in need of treatment for illness or injury, providing accurate assessment and evaluate the best course of action.
Ensure parent/guardians are contacted where necessary.
Administering medication to students as required and record accurately.
Ensure first aid supplies and sick bay supplies are maintained at all times, including checking material and equipment to ensure safe use.
Assist with the student reception window for the distribution of equipment, liaise with phone calls etc.
The First Aide Officer is responsible to the Principal through the HR Manager.
This position is 5 days per week 9am - 3.30pm (start and finish times can be negotiated), with a 30 minutes unpaid lunch break – 30 hours per week.
Essential Requirements of the Role

Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
A minimum Level 2 First Aid Certificate is required for this position. This position will ideally suit an applicant with extensive First Aid/Nursing experience.
Responsibilities are as follows but not limited to:
Administer effective and timely First Aid to the Tarneit Senior College - Students and Staff.
Manage the overall functions of the Sick Bay.
Order, store, monitor and administer medication and medical supplies in accordance with the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances legislation.
Contact parents, emergency services, allied and community health as required.
Liaise with teaching staff re: any problems/queries about student medical conditions.
Manage the dispensing of medication to students as required during school hours and who have provided the appropriate signed documentation.
Check all student medical forms prior to school camps and excursions and ensure appropriate medication and first aid supplies are available for the specific student needs
Preparation and re-stocking of all First Aid kits in identified locations and for activities both in and out of the College, including Evacuation Kit
Maintain accident/illness register and enter/retrieve data in school First Aid database according to DET requirements.
Print and update lists of students and their medical conditions.
Liaise with Enrolment Manager to ensure newly enrolled student medical information is correct and up to date.
Ensure that health information regarding every student is current, comprehensive and clearly communicated to relevant staff within the school utilising our school management system Compass.
Injury reporting - support Principal to liaise with Emergency and Security Management, Worksafe and Edusafe as required.
Establish and implement action plans for specific student medical conditions. This includes but is not limited to: anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma and severe allergies
Organise staff First Aid/CPR/Asthma/Anaphylaxis training, organisation of annual staff influenza vaccines with local medical centre.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Ensure sick bay is clean, well-organised and maintained in accordance to OHS standards.
Coordinate Immunisation Program, Dental Health Program and other health specific programs
Assist with the student reception window for the distribution of equipment, liaise with phone calls etc.
General office duties as required.
Other duties as directed by the Principal and Business Manager.
