Who We Are

Saunders & Ward is a Tasmanian family-owned business with over 100 years’ experience in general engineering. We operate fabrication and machining workshops on a jobbing basis, engaging in the manufacture, repair, refurbishment, installation and maintenance of industrial equipment to the power generation, mining, minerals processing, aquaculture, water and general engineering industries.

We have modern well-equipped facilities and an experienced workforce producing quality small to large scale industrial components out of our Kingston based facility.

We are currently seeking a motivated individual keen to learn the machining trade. 

The Apprenticeship

As a Fitter & Turner Apprentice, some of the skills you will learn are to:

• Machine accurate components from engineering drawings and samples;
• Operate a variety of size and type manual machines including lathes, slotting and milling machines;
• CNC program, both at the machine and offline using specialised software applications;
• Set up and operate a range of CNC mills and lathes;
• Dismantle and assemble mechanical equipment to specification;
• Carry out maintenance, refurbishment and repairs of plant & equipment;
• Inspect and verify parts by using precision measuring equipment.
