General Practitioner With Special Interest - Outpatient Care

The Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced and client focused General Practitioner with Special Interest - OUTPATIENT CARE for a temporary part-time role, up to 31/12/2025. PLEASE NOTE - multiple part-time positions available, hours negotiable.

The purpose of the General Practitioner: Outpatients position is to improve the integration between the hospital and primary health care by providing services within an outpatient setting as part of a sub-specialty clinical team.

Townsville University Hospital, located adjacent to one of Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University, is the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for 700,000 people living from Mackay, to the Torres Strait, to the Northern Territory border

Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up temporary employment may receive up to $20,000 (pro rata) in incentive payments under the   Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme ( https://www.careers.health.qld.gov.au/working-for-us/workforce-attraction-incentive-scheme ) 

The opportunityThis role may also be requested to provide input into the planning, development and quality improvement of planned care outpatient services at the local level: ensuring care is integrated across the patient journey and people receive access to the right level of care in the right place at the right time.

Role requirements

• Qualified as a medical practitioner, qualifications in speciality areas and current registration and / or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Fellowship of either the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).
• All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee.  All appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the CSCF for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. 

Generous pro rata remuneration package (based on full-time equivalent value) up to $258,910 p.a.  comprising:

• Salary rates between $84.71- $124.05 p.h. (L13-L27)
• Annual leave loading + leave
• 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
• Professional Development allowance ($21,000 p.a. pro rata) + leave
• Vehicle ($21,000 - $25,500 pro rata), Communications (40 hrs/pf to be eligible), Attraction & Retention (35% base salary), Regional & Rural (5% base salary)

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

• Experienced, well regarded GP with excellent communication skills. The ability to liaise, negotiate and problem solve.
• Good listening skills, the ability to work as part of a team.
• Confidence and the ability to communicate and work with all levels of hospital and primary care staff including administration, nursing and specialist staff.
• Need to be assertive and diplomatic in their approach and advocate for collaborative patient care.
• Open to the views and opinions of both GP and other specialty sectors and have good conflict resolution skills.
• Good oral, written and organisational skills are an advantage with the ability to be confident in public speaking.
• Demonstrates flexibility, optimism and shows initiative.
• Demonstrates a proactive approach and creates opportunities to progress health service innovation and system change.
• Passionate about the health care of the population, and a desire to improve local service delivery.
