Job description

For this Perth based role, we are seeking fit and healthy people to be Field Technicians with our minerals exploration crews to start work in April.

We’re looking for experienced candidates who are able to work safely in a small team.

When assessing candidates, highest priority factors for us are:

  1. Full open ‘C’ driver’s licence;
  2. Fit and healthy – you must be able to walk up to 20km per day, in rugged terrain and in challenging weather (i.e. hot);
  3. Willingness to travel to remote areas of Australia for extended swings (usually 3 weeks maximum);

Nice to have but not essential are:

  1. Experience operating a 4WD in challenging conditions;
  2. Experience in operating an ATV (quad bike) and UTV safely;
  3. Current first aid certificate;
  4. Understanding of using a GPS;
  5. Understanding of the co-ordinate systems commonly used in Australia;
  6. Mechanical and technical competence.

The most successful Field Technicians are people who have good attention to detail, but do not dither. They can take direction but work independently with minimal supervision. The ability to learn quickly and to take instruction from our experienced crew leaders and project managers will be key to success.

We work a ten hour day in the field (including travel to and from site) so it is a good job for the early riser.

Our field crews are our frontline client relationship managers, representing the company right at the coal face – so well developed interpersonal and communication skills are highly regarded.

An interest in geophysics is helpful, and many of our Field Technicians have been graduate geophysicists or geologists who are seeking practical experience.

There is room to move in the role for the right person.

What is in it for you:

  1. Travel to some of the most remote parts of Australia;
  2. Accommodation and meals provided while away from home;
  3. Training in all aspects of the role as well as the required safety tickets is provided;
  4. Further training and advancement for the right person.
  5. A number of survey types is undertaken by Gap, so we’re offering a variety of learning opportunities for the successful candidate.

Remuneration offered will be based on your experience and the number of applicable tickets you might have.
