The Department of Treasury and Finance is seeking expressions of interest for graduates to be employed at the Department of Treasury and Finance and also for graduates be placed on an across government register to fill positions in SA Government agencies.
The Department of Treasury and Finance is looking for graduate economists and financial analysts to help manage our annual state budget and work with businesses and industry to help build the future of our great state.

As a Graduate Officer with the Department of Treasury and Finance, your duties may include:
- collecting and preparing accounting reports to assist government decision making,
- contribute to agency and State budgets and other financial reports,
- application of rigorous financial and accounting practices to support the strategic direction of your agency and responsible Minister,
- working in a team environment that supports your ongoing development,
- undertaking finance based tasks as directed by the relevant supervisor,
- assisting in the compilation and dissemination of financial information to internal and external stakeholders,
- undertaking research and assisting in the collection and analysis of financial data and information to assist with Branch specific projects,
- assisting in the production and analysis of finance based reporting and monitoring in an accurate and timely manner,
- maintaining and updating, as appropriate, financial management systems and records,
- participating in relevant decision making processes, especially with regards to financial management policies and procedures,
- participating in the preparation of written correspondence including relevant memos, letters, minutes, briefings and submissions.
Special Conditions
Graduate Officer, Department of Treasury and Finance
The Graduate Officer, Department of Treasury and Finance is expected to participate in the Department of Treasury and Finance Graduate Development Program as well as undertake on the job training relevant to the position and team more generally.
The incumbent may be required to be assigned to other positions at the same remuneration level across the department, including positions based at Port Adelaide.
The position will be required to undergo performance appraisals as part of the Department’s Performance Discussion program and the Graduate Development Program’s requirements.
Some out of hours work may be required, particularly around State Budget time, in order to meet critical deadlines.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be able to commence work immediately or in early 2024 (you may be required to work in the Adelaide CBD or other areas).
- You are a recent accounting, economics, finance or business/commerce graduate, having completed a University Qualification within the last 3 years or will complete a qualification before the employment commencement date.
- Open age.
- Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Have not completed a graduate program within the SA public sector previously, or one hosted by the SA public sector.
- Willingness to participate in training and development activities.
- Willingness to undergo a national police check and clearance to meet the required entry standards.
- Be suitable to the future needs of SA Public Sector agencies and participate in pre-requisite requirements such as an assessment of verbal, numeric and abstract ability if required.
- Meet all other employment conditions, including travel independently to and from the workplace, training sites and other sites as determined.

- Time management – describe a time you have had to organise, plan and prioritise in order to meet critical timeframes. Please include examples of how you achieved the outcome or met the deadline.
- Team work –tell us what you think is important in a successful team and your ability to work as a team member. Please describe a team you have been part of, its objectives and challenges, how they were met or overcome, the final outcome, and your role in the team.
