Job description

Our client is the Australian arm of a private global group with close to 10,000 employees and almost 10 million customers worldwide. They are an industry leader in their area of specialisation and are now seeking to appoint a Head of Compliance - a new position created as part of their ambitious growth plans.

The purpose of the Head of Compliance is to lead and manage the Compliance, Monitoring and Regulatory teams across the five key Compliance streams of:

Regulatory

Advisory

Governance

Assurance

Incident Management.

Key responsibilities include the following:
To provide support to senior management, the Board and to our client's business operations in relation to its obligations management, and to advise on the changing regulatory environment in the Australian insurance industry.

To maintain a strategic framework for the management of the relationships with key regulators (e.g. APRA, ASIC, CGC and AFCA) with responsibility for all dealings with ASIC and CGC in particular.

To oversee the effective operation of the regulatory elements of the Incident Management Framework including the investigation, management, reporting of compliance incidents, and remediation programs.

Overseeing 2nd line assurance of the Group's activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Ensuring quality compliance advice and assistance is provided to the business in key areas such as customer service (sales, service, claims and disputes), product design and delivery, partnerships and learning and development.

Ensuring the business is able to understand, and provide support in meeting its regulatory obligations as prescribed by its Australian financial services licence and the General Insurance Code of Practice by supporting the business at all levels.

To Be Eligible for this role you will require the following:
Knowledge and Experience:
Proven experience in leading a Compliance team.

High commercial acumen.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent drafting skills (policy and process writing/frameworks)

Proven decision-making skills - ability to make effective competent and commercial decisions in a timely manner.

Ability to engage stakeholders and build relationships.

Proven negotiation skills - ability to negotiate/influence stakeholders to ensure they are meeting compliance obligations.

Time management skills - demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and organise workload in an effective manner.

Analytical skills - ability to operate in a complex dynamic environment and make recommendations, compliance actions and decisions based on a thorough understanding of compliance obligations balanced with the commercial needs of the business.

Thorough understanding of regulatory regimes within the financial services sector.

Completion of compliance focused courses and Legal and/or Risk qualifications will be highly regarded.
