Gilmore College is seeking to appoint an energetic, inspiring and dynamic leader to take up a position as English Head of Learning Area (HOLA). We would welcome you as part of our friendly and supportive team.

As Head of Learning Area, you will ideally have the ability to bring people together and work collaboratively with the members of the senior leadership team and the wider school community to provide educational leadership through the development and promotion of the school’s vision and strategic directions. The successful applicant will ideally be responsible for the management and mentoring of a large and diverse team, including those teaching across multiple Learning Areas and be committed to improving teacher efficacy and developing future leaders.

You should display a high level of understanding of the Australian Professional Teacher and Leadership Standards and the Western Australian Curriculum and you would be supportive of whole school pedagogical philosophy around Explicit Instruction and high impact Teaching strategies. You should take on significant levels of accountability through the monitoring and tracking of student progress, with a view to reflecting and assessing the effectiveness of teaching practice and programs and work to engaging all staff to revitalise the curriculum and ensuring that teaching and learning programs are responsive to the needs of the 21 st  century learner in the context of our school community. The successful applicant will ideally possess the ability to form positive relationships with staff in the department as well as students and families and have a commitment to the priorities of the Gilmore College Business Plan 2018 - 2021, as well as to whole school literacy and numeracy.

The successful applicant should embrace a personal commitment to the four core values of the college community and exemplify being supportive, Organised, Aspirational and Resilient (SOAR). Additionally, you will lead a team that embraces school directions, pedagogical practice including the application of key learning capabilities within teaching scope and sequence and associated differentiation. You should be supportive of ongoing performance development processes including but not limited to peer observations.

Our staff should work collaboratively with their peers and other staff across the campus. All staff should ideally have a focus on pastoral care, student well-being and a commitment to exemplifying the college moral purpose with all key school community stakeholders. Staff should be engaging with families to assist student learning and ensure there are no surprises about student progress.

As the successful applicant, you will be a key member of the school leadership team. Your role will include responsibility for the leadership and management of the English Learning Area across Years 10, 11 and 12.

You should be excited at the unique opportunity to lead development of the senior school and in collaboration with a dedicated team of English teachers. As the HOLA – English you should be an expert classroom practitioner with a passion for English and display the capacity to build a culture of excellence in teaching that supports the learning needs of all students. To be successful in this role you will ideally have the experience and professional knowledge to lead staff and curriculum development in the English Learning

Area.

Gilmore College is an Independent public school which opened in 2008 continuing 52 previous years of secondary education provided by Kwinana Senior High School. The school continues the education of students from within the City of Kwinana area primary schools.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
