To support their clearly defined and ambitious growth objectives, they are seeking a talented Head of Marketing and Communications to take charge of driving innovative and strategic initiatives to support them on their journey.

The business

The business has established an enviable reputation based on integrity, reliability and technical capability and is one of only a handful of contractors operating in Australia that is capable of undertaking large and complex industrial projects for an impressive range of clients including Shell, Exxon Mobil, Chevron and Rio Tinto.

The firm has received recognition for its achievements at the World Demolition Awards on multiple occasions, winning five World Demolition Awards in the last seven years including the inaugural overall World Demolition Award.

Since diversifying into remediation services, this firm has also been recognised at the Australian Land and Groundwater Excellence Awards, receiving the prestigious Australian Land and Groundwater Association Award for the best remedial project.

Department purpose

The Marketing and Communications function contributes to the setting and achievement of the business’ objectives, which include improving client relationships, increasing the visibility of the business, and supporting the pursuit of new business opportunities.

The Head of the function will manage a well-resourced team including a Marketing Coordinator, Bid Coordinators and Graphic Designer. There is scope to develop and grow this team in-line with business needs as necessary.

Role purpose

We are looking for a talented marketer to lead the delivery of bold, insightful and strategic marketing, communication and BD campaigns. The role will focus on leveraging relevant channels to deliver high-quality integrated marketing campaigns. Further, this role will advise key stakeholders to drive business development activity to enhance revenue through the acquisition of new opportunities. This role will ideally be based in Sydney, however, other office locations will be considered. Part-time and flexible working options are also available.

Role and responsibilities

Working closely with the General Manager, other senior stakeholders and managing a team of three, this role will focus on supporting the following broad objectives:

Develop and execute on the business’ marketing strategy in line with key business objectives with team support and management responsibilities.
Work with key stakeholders to develop opportunity pursuit plans with regular check-in meetings to ensure accountability and activity from key revenue generating individuals, including assessment of pipeline and a high standard of relationship management.
Identify opportunities to promote as well as protect the brand.
Identify opportunities to support the Employer brand alongside HR.
Develop marketing goals, challenges, perception gaps, and then advising on the development and execution of bold and insightful campaigns, which are well thought-out and measurable, distributed via a range of channels.
Identifying opportunities to develop and deliver thought leadership/campaigns aligned with target clients and sectors.
Identify and support the qualification process for new opportunities.
With the support of talented bid coordinators, advise and execute on strategic tenders, bids and proposals.
Embed best practice marketing, communications and business development across the business.
Remain innovative as a function to ensure its efforts help the firm standout amongst our competitors.
Manage any reputational issues and advise on communications strategies and approaches internally and externally.
Managing the brand and visual identity across our offices which includes working with the Graphic Designer to design brochures, advertisements, banners, social media cards etc.
Work with key stakeholders on a regular basis to source key themes, market trends and developments to proactively promoting the expertise of the business and key insights via media and digital channels.
Draft and design content for maximum engagement, filter incoming requests for social media posts.
Managing the firm’s engagement with media and providing strategic counsel for internal stakeholders when engaging with media.
Manage the Marketing and Communications spending against agreed budgets.
Website content development, management and publication of content.
Ensuring activity is measurable and data driven; utilise this insight to improve and influence future initiatives.
Using the firm’s internal communications channels to educate employees and communicate successes and significant business updates.
Advising on communications plans for key reputational issues

Key requirements

Proven experience in developing and executing high quality, innovative marketing and communications campaigns using a range of channels including digital and social and manager, senior manager or head-of level (7+ years).
A good understanding of best practice marketing, communications and BD.
Client-centric in approach and commercially minded.
Possess the ability to see the big picture, but also pay tight attention to detail.
Strong organisational/project management skills with the ability to plan ahead and execute to task.
Excellent track record of working with senior management within a commercially focused organisation.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels and particularly to win the respect of the senior management community.
Strong influencing skills – able to convince and articulate verbally and in writing.
Excellent track record of using initiative and creativity to conceptualise, execute and influence on strategic projects/campaigns.
Able to deal with multiple priorities and urgent situations as they arise; the ability to be flexible when needed; resilient under pressure.
Friendly and approachable to all levels of staff.
Able to be discrete and handle sensitive/confidential information.
Collaborative team player with the ability to nurture and work in a fast-paced environment.
High-energy individual who enjoys both the operational and strategic sides of this role and shows great flexibility and rolls up their sleeves when needed.
A person of sound judgment, able to establish a high level of credibility in the organisation and act as a trusted advisor to management.
