Position Information

Wilcannia Central School is located in Western NSW on the banks of the beautiful Darling River. We deliver tailored learning pathways for students from Preschool to Year 12, with 95% of our students identifying as Aboriginal. Our school has a current enrolment of 96 students.

As a Connected Communities school, supported by our local AECG, we are part of a network that builds strong partnerships with Aboriginal leaders, families, our wider community, and external agencies, to provide a holistic approach to education for all of our students.

Small class sizes allow for effective relationships to be established between staff, students and their families. We have a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, the delivery of quality differentiated literacy and numeracy programs as well as a commitment to delivery programs that demonstrate a culturally rich curriculum.

Staff at Wilcannia Central School are committed to continuous improvement enhanced by targeted professional learning, with opportunities existing for staff to be involved with future focused learning, STEM, cultural programs, outdoor education, and school promotion.

All staff at Wilcannia Central School are flexible within their roles to support the individual needs of students, ensure the smooth running of the day, and coordinate school events.

The Head Teacher Mentor will lead the support for early career permanent, temporary and casual teachers in Connected Communities schools. The Head Teacher Mentor will support teachers to strengthen their practice through an explicit, structured program of professional development, coaching, classroom observation, demonstration, team teaching and individualised professional feedback. The Head Teacher Mentor role will work closely with other executive to strengthen a positive performance and development culture across the school, aligned to the values of the Connected Communities strategy.

The Head Teacher Mentor does not have an allocated teaching timetable, however will work directly in classrooms supporting other teachers for at least half the teaching load of an executive teacher.
