The primary purpose of the Health Worker – Advanced is to facilitate effective, coordinated and culturally capable health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the Townsville Correctional facilities. They will undertake effective discharge planning for patients to facilitate successful transition from prison, back into the community.
They will direct patient care using clinical skills appropriate for the delivery of health assessments and supporting the Nurse Navigator to identify and coordinate complex care needs for high risk prisoners. You will provide cultural leadership to health professionals and provide health education and support to the patients receiving health care.
Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
Generous remuneration package value up to $97,236 p.a. comprising:
- Salary range of $40.50 to $42.98 p.h. (part-time) (HW5)
- Salary range of $80,308 to $85,223 p.a. (full-time) (HW5)
- Annual leave with 17.5% loading
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements
- Successful completion of, or currently completing a Diploma in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care is mandatory.
- Proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association.
- This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle (manual and automatic) and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
